Are permanent cosmetic procedures really permanent?
The techniques used in permanent cosmetic procedures deposit pigment into the upper part of the dermal layer of the skin and it is considered permanent because it cannot be washed off. Nonetheless, with time fading will occur. Periodic maintenance or color refreshing will be necessary to keep the desired look. The longevity of permanent makeup depends on many factors such as sun exposure, thickness of skin, skin care products used, and age.
How long does the permanent makeup procedure take?
The amount of time a permanent makeup procedure may take ultimately depends upon the client’s aesthetic goals. Expect to spend 2 to 3 hours at your appointment. There will be paperwork to take care of in addition to the initial color and design consultation, and the actual procedure. The follow up appointment will not require as much time.
Is it painful?
Normally, you would experience some discomfort or pain depending on your individual tolerance. No worries, there are many topical anesthetics specifically developed for the permanent makeup procedures. Your artist will make sure you feel as comfortable as possible during your session.
Are permanent cosmetic procedures safe?
Assuming that the guidelines for sterilization and disinfection are followed, permanent cosmetic procedures are completely safe.
What to expect during and after the procedure?
Depending on the procedure performed you can expect various degree of swelling or tenderness. For example, eyebrows or lash enhancement usually show very little effect after procedure. However, lips or eyeliner may show minor to moderate swelling. Full lip color will show more effects than blended lip liner and so on. The degree of effects also differs from individual to individual. People who take blood thinners can experience some minor bruising or slight bleeding during the procedure. It is rare, but it can occur. These post procedure effects will subside in 24-48 hours. Also, expect the color to appear darker and bolder due to a natural process of scabbing and healing for the first 10 days. It is common for all permanent cosmetic procedures.
How many procedures do I need?
Two treatments are usually needed, at least 4 weeks apart. At the second treatment, we will assess the color retention and make adjustments as necessary. Everyone heals differently.
Can I choose the shape and the color?
You will have the opportunity to discuss shape and color with the permanent makeup artist. In proposing a design for you, we will take into consideration your age, personality, current use of makeup, daily activities, and the color and undertone of your skin. The artist will also take into consideration the shape of your lips, structure of your brow bone, or curvature of your eyelid before creating the shape outline. We will not start the procedure until you approve the design.
Can I get permanent makeup done if I have allergies?
If you have any allergies, please check with us PRIOR to booking an appointment. We will provide you with a list of ingredients of all products we use. Skin test for allergic reaction is also available upon request.
Can I have an MRI scan?
There is little to no potential risk of irritation during an MRI as confirmed by many studies. You should inform your MRI technician that you have permanent cosmetics.
When can I get Botox/fillers?
You can get Botox and fillers 6-8 weeks prior to your appointment or 8-10 weeks after your appointment.
